Senior Dog Diarrhea: Warning Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

Common Causes in Senior Dogs

  • Dietary upset (new food, treats, garbage)
  • Food intolerance or allergies
  • Infections (bacterial, viral, parasites)
  • Medications (especially antibiotics or NSAIDs)
  • Stress or anxiety

What You Can Do at Home

If your dog is still alert, drinking, and symptoms just started:

1. Short Food Break

Withhold food for 12–24 hours (not for frail dogs — ask a vet first!)

2. Hydration

Encourage water! You can offer diluted, unflavored electrolyte solution

3. Fix the digestive issue

Give a fast-active anti-diarrhoea treatment, preferrably liquid like GastroBalance

4. Bland Diet

After fasting:

  • Boiled chicken (no skin) + white rice
  • Small, frequent meals
